Student grant for Dutch students studying abroad Starting the academic year 2007/2008, Dutch students are able to enrol in a full-time or part-time programme at a foreign college or university while retaining their right to receive a student grant from the Dutch government. The requirement that they must simultaneously be enrolled at a Dutch university or institution of higher professional education will no longer apply. The new rule allows many more students to qualify for financial aid which works out at approximately € 18 million a year. Bachelor-Master system in the Netherlands increases Dutch student export Another development is the change from the Dutch Higher Education System to an international Bachelor-Master system. In September 2001 the Council of Ministers signed the bill for the introduction of the system as of 2002. The system is based on two cycles, undergraduate and graduate. The final level obtained is the criterion for the international comparability of studies.
Together, these developments make it possible for Dutch students to easily start and finish their studies abroad, and for foreign institutions to increase their international position in the Netherlands. A great impact on the export of Dutch students can be expected.
